Hi, welcome to my website!
Thanks for stopping by! Out with the old, in with the slightly newer! Welcome to the official revamped internet presence of the Minneapolis-based instrumental oddball fingerstyle guitarist Finnegan, a.k.a. Michael Krenner.
Finnegan is the acoustic chicken pickin' pseudonym of a guy from Minneapplesauce that many know as Micycle. Over the years, solo acoustic guitar became a really nice way to keep him entertained and kill time while not playing with his freak-out rock band Iced Ink or making atonal jigsaw puzzle recordings under the pseudonym Honkeylips.
He remembers his parents calling him into the room in 1985 saying "Watch this guy on TV play!" It was Leo Kottke, and young Finnegan could not believe all of that sound was coming from one guy. They bought him a "Leo Kottke - The Best" LP for Christmas and after that, he knew he wanted to play that kind of music in some way, shape, and form for the rest of his life.
Attn. guitar geeks: Inquiring minds wanted to know: Yes, most of the songs are done in open tunings. Mainly DGDGBD and DADF#AD - and some other rather uncommon "make the open strings sound cool, put your fingers down and see what happens" tunings. There will hopefully be an open tunings blurb somewhere on the website in the future, but that's it in a nutshell for now.
If you're anything like me, sometimes you'll put your fingers on the guitar neck, strum, and think "Hmm.. that sounds pretty awesome. I wonder what chord that is?" Here's a spiffy Chord Finder Google Gadget for you to play with:

1.20.08 Happy New Year!
9.17.07 Thanks for coming to the Nomad Thanks to everyone who came out to the Nomad on Friday night to experience the first ever Finnegan set with vocals! Special thanks to Joe Berkman (bass) and Timm Elmquist (voice) for making such a cool set and all of the other artists that performed that night.
8.27.07 Awesome show coming up! For the first time ever, I'm playing with a singer, and a phenominal one at that. Mark September 14th on your calendars and head to the gig page for more info.
5.07.07: Sorry, man. I'm too busy getting ready to get married to devote much time to Finnegan musics! I'm not sorry that I'm getting married, but I'm sorry I don't have time to play shows at the moment or write any new songs.
I'll be falling back to planet Earth in early August after our honeymoon at which point I'll be hitting the gig circuit pretty hard. Until then, have a great summer!
